Blogs take many forms from the text only, such as mine to the totally video. Yes, I think of YouTube as a kind of video blog site. I know that it isn’t strictly blogging, but it helps to show what I mean. Blogging is an outlet. For me, it’s a creative outlet. For others, blogging is a way to convey information. They treat it like a regular column in a newspaper or magazine. To others, blogging is more like writing a journal or diary entry.
My blog is like rather that. I write it much in the manner that I write my journal. In fact, most of my blog entries come straight from my journal. I choose a topic and muse about it until I have something vaguely cohesive enough to spin into my blog. Then I edit it for content, punctuation, and spelling. That’s why my blog is a general topic kind of blog. It’s actually excerpts from my journal with the boring parts removed.
Often, my blogs start as a nebulous idea floating in my head. I write that idea down in my journal and start expanding it. then it grows into a op-ed style piece or something like that. I finish the piece in the journal and then transfer it to my blog software. Once it is there, I read it over and edit out any pieces that don’t belong, like comments on other things, whatever had struck me when I wrote the piece. Sometimes I rearrange sentences within paragraphs and eve entire paragraphs get moved. That’s just the writing process. I’ll add a word here and take one away there – again, just the writing process. Then I add the category, like general opinion, or something like that, some tags or keywords, set the time for it to be published and post the draft to my blog site. At the date and time specified, it’s available to the public. That part is easy. Writing it is the hard part. It can take me almost a full week to write one blog.
Blogging can be cathartic for some people. I don’t bare my soul in my blog. I do that in my private journal. I can be caustic when I am in a bad mood, but I leave that kind of thing in the pages of my journal. I often don’t mean what I write in that case, so there is no reason why I should post it for all the world to see – or at least, everyone who reads my blog. I keep that kind of mental garbage to myself. As I said, I often don’t mean it anyway and why cause trouble for trouble’s sake? I leave that to the warmongers and trolls of the Internet.
That’s blogging – pretty much undefined and vague, but everything has its place in the blogosphere. Whatever kind of blogging that you do is ok as long as you are happy with it and comfortable doing it.
