Healthy Snacking While Writing

We all want to be healthy. We all want snacks. I know what you are thinking, snacking is bad. I’m here to tell you that is a myth. You can do and should do some snacking. You need to be smart about your snacks. When you are writing and feeling peckish, you want to reach for a snack. Your choice of what you snack on, doesn’t have to add weight to your body. It should fuel your body.

When we feel peckish, that is a sign that our bodies need fuel or energy. It’s all right to give it to your body. There are a lot of snacks you can eat, vegetables and fruit are the best. You can have a plate of cut raw vegetables on your desk or a table near where you are writing. You can eat those and get the benefits of them.

Fruit is another good snack to have on hand. Eat an apple or some grapes, whatever your choice. Some companies package fruit in individual servings in small cups. You can have that if you choose. The best fruit cups are those without syrup. If the fruit comes packaged in juice rather than syrup, it’s healthier than fruit in syrup. So look for that.

Crackers and cheese are another healthier snack. You can find individual servings of these as well. Power bars can be good. You need to be careful with those, though. Some of them aren’t as low calorie as you would think.
When choosing a prepackaged snack, check the nutrition label. The higher the protein content, the better. Protein sticks with you. Watch out for added sugar. You don’t need it. Note how much fat is in the bar. You want low fat, low sugar, high protein.

Snacks, even the ones I have recommended, will have calories. Watch those as well. As always, limit the number of servings you eat. I like finger foods when I’m writing. I can reach over and grab a stick of celery or a carrot to eat while I’m working on a piece.

Of course, you might choose a candy bar or something similar. But you should be aware that if you are trying to be healthy, candy bars are best kept rare in you diet.

It’s never a good idea to deny yourself any type of food. Keep the worst stuff to a minimum, but don’t cut them out completely. That will only make you want them more.

It’s not impossible to be healthy even as a writer. All you need to do is be aware of the foods and snacks you choose to eat. Watch the protein content. The more protein in your food, the longer it will stick with you. So eat healthy and keep writing.
