Perfection

The Spanish painter, Salvador Dali said, “Have no fear of perfection — you’ll never reach it.” I used to strive for perfection. I wouldn’t even try new things for fear that I would not be perfect at them. I’ve matured enough to learn that that is a stupid way to live. Living in fear of failure is not a good way to live. It will stunt you and keep you unhappy all your life. Unhappiness is not something you should strive for – really, who wants to be unhappy?

Perfection is a nice goal, but you can drive yourself crazy trying to achieve it. It is not worth the price you will pay, if you sacrifice your physical or mental health trying to reach it. Humans are not perfect and you will only attain peace if you accept that not everyone is like you or have the same beliefs. Trying to make a perfect world of this oh-so-imperfect one is the road to madness.

If you stop trying new things because you are afraid of failure – get over it. face the fact that you are not going to succeed at everything you try. there’s no shame in that. the shame is in the not trying. You might find that, although you aren’t good at something when you first try it, if you like, you will get better over time.

That’s the key, practice makes perfect as the old maxim says. It’s an old maxim because it is also a truism, as long as you remember that ‘perfect’ in this instance only means ‘better’. You will do better with practice, but you will never be perfect. When you stop and think about it, being perfect would be boring and who wants to be boring?

So try new things, strive to be good at them, yes, but try them and if you fail – learn from your failure. Never stop learning. If you stop learning, you might as well stop living. Only an idiot or very sad person wants to stop living. I’ve never been suicidal myself, I think that my luck is such that if I had an incurable terminal disease and killed myself, they would announce a cure the day after.

I am not perfect and I am proud that I am not perfect. It means that I am human. Being perfect is vastly overrated. We admire those who do well, but even though they may appear to be perfect, they aren’t. No one on this Earth is perfect. So revel in your imperfection but never stop trying to be good at everything that you try to do, but don’t sweat it if you aren’t. That’s life, we work at something, we fail. Only those who don’t get over their failures are the ones we count as failures in life. The most successful people leave a failure and try something else. Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. To quote someone else, “Those who matter don’t care and those who care don’t matter.”

About

I am not one who is comfortable talking about myself but here goes. I enjoy writing, family history, and reading. I decided to do this blog because I wanted to try something new. I decided to make it a weekly blog because I wasn't sure that I could keep up with a daily one, and monthly seemed like I was writing a magazine. I think I did ok with my choices. You'll notice that there are not a lot of graphics on my site. That's because there are graphics plastered everywhere on the Internet and those sites sometimes take forever to load. This blog is a place where you can kick back, relax and be ready to be amused. At least I hope I willbamuse you. This blog is on a variety of subjects from my ficitional cat agency, the FFL, which is monthly, to instructional blogs to editorials, which are my opinions only. I admit that I don't know everything and could be wrong -- I frequently am. Now, stop reading about me and read what I have to say!
