Self-Discipline

I use the meditation app called Insight Timer when I meditate. It has courses you can take, and I found one on Self-Discipline. I found it interesting and decided to share some of its key points. Stories do not write themselves, no matter what anyone says. Someone sat down and wrote each story. Self-discipline can help you do that.
It is not the key to success. Don’t think that if you had some self-discipline, you’d reach success. It won’t happen. Discipline can help you be successful, but it doesn’t guarantee success. You need to pair it with motivation. Neither, on its own, will bring you success.

Self-discipline isn’t has hard as you think. Self-discipline is not something we can actually live without. Life is much harder without it. It keeps us from doing stupid things and ending up in some bad places or makes our lives chaotic. You need to accept discomfort in the short term. That’s what self-discipline is.

It is not the same as will power. Will power is usually quite weak. Self-discipline is the development of heaths habits and sticking to them. Will power takes energy and determination every time you use it. Self-discipline is the result of having a plan and implementing. That’s the difference.

Self-discipline does not mean being in control all the time. Sometimes, things get out of control. Accept that you can’t control everything and that is self-discipline. Control the things you can, which is your reactions to the things that happen. How you control your reaction to a problem that cropped up is important. It’s the difference between finding a solution and the problem spawning new problems.

Self-discipline does not mean you must suppress your emotions. Humans have emotions. We feel things. Self-discipline is the art of knowing your emotions. Be aware of how you feel. It will help you to stay calm as you work through difficult situations. That means not letting your emotions to take over and cause further difficulties.

Having self-discipline helps you to do what you want to do. You can be free of the small things that sometimes try to control you. A self-disciplined lifestyle may appear restrictive. But it actually lets you live freer than if you gave into any little impulse that comes along. That’s huge.

You can develop your self-discipline by setting up a plan. Make sure the plan is something you want. Then find the motivation to partner it and you should reach the goal. Make no mistake, it will take time and effort, but you will get there.

Develop a healthy balance of work and play and you will find success. It’s as simple as that, and as hard. Let self-discipline steer you away from instant gratification. Instant gratification is instant. It’s there, then it’s gone. It’s the result of those impulses, your self-discipline helps you avoid. So work on your self discipline by reminding yourself of your end goal. That’s what will write your stories. That’s what will bring success.
