Finding More Time To Write

So you’ve checked your day and found all the available moments you can use to write. Could you find more? I believe you could.

What about your commute time? If you ride a train to work, you can write on the train. If you drive, you’re screwed, right? Wrong. That’s where dictation comes into play. Your phone can take dictation as you drive. Of course, you can’t listen to the radio, but that’s the price you pay.

If your exercise routine includes walking, you can write on the go while doing that. Again, you can use your phone, either dictating, or typing into a memo app. Microsoft office lets you use Word, either for dictating or typing on your phone.

Do you have an exercise bike? You could dictate into your phone while riding it. For that matter, you could, using a headset, dictate to your phone while on a bike ride.

You can also write while eating. This too has two benefits. One, you get your writing further along, and two, you slow down while eating. All too often, we eat our food so fast we don’t taste it. We outrun the stomach’s notification of fullness to the brain which leads to overeating. Slowing our eating down allows our stomachs time to notify the brain that it is full. That’s a huge plus. So not only can you get some writing done, you can stop overeating at the same time. Tha’ts a double win.

Of course, that’s an oversimplification, but it is a good way to slow down your eating, if you have trouble with it. Take a bite, write a sentence while you chew. Take another bite, chew and write another sentence. It’s one possible method to get some writing time in.

So go over your day and look for ways you can dictate your writing to your phone while doing something else. You might surprise yourself at how much time you have available to write using dictation.

You may find that you have more time to write besides the time you have already found. Your schedule may be full. Remember there are often empty spaces between items on your daily agenda. Even if all you get is one or two sentences, that’s one or two sentences more than you had before.

Be creative in how you find time to write. You may surprise yourself. Look for ways you can use dictation to do some writing. Dictation is often overlooked, but it can save you time when time is precious.

If you can’t find any more time to write, don’t stress about it. That is counter productive. Do what you can and you will be fine. Good luck and keep writing.
